Cloudflare released Forge, an Apache-2.0 generator that builds SDKs, CLIs, and documentation from an API definition, after Anthropic acquired Stainless on May 18 and wound down the proprietary hosted SDK generator that customers including Google, Cloudflare, and OpenAI had depended on. Cloudflare says hosted generators exposed it to vendor failure across more than 3,500 API operations, and the move follows Google and Speakeasy open-sourcing their own OpenAPI client-generation suite under AGPLv3 on September 17.
