iT’s FOSS reports that DigitalOcean has quietly sunset its Open Source Credits program, under which approved open source projects received cloud credits to cover infrastructure such as CI runners, documentation sites, release mirrors, testing environments, virtual servers, storage, snapshots and backups, in exchange for mentioning the company on project sites and documentation. Maintainers of Node.js received an email saying the company decided to sunset the program and is no longer accepting new credit applications or approving credit renewals, extensions or additional credit requests, with the opensource@digitalocean.com inbox no longer monitored, so existing credits will run out and projects must pay or migrate. The report says there is no official blog or social media announcement, that the change surfaced through a GitHub issue and a Reddit thread, and that it follows DigitalOcean dropping its credits from the GitHub Student Pack earlier this year.
