Phoronix reports that Edison Design Group has open-sourced its EDG C/C++ front-end, the commercial compiler front-end whose dialect support made it a component of Intel’s classic C++ compiler, NVIDIA’s CUDA NVCC toolchain, and Microsoft Visual Studio’s IntelliSense. The code is now released under the Apache 2.0 license and The C++ Alliance is becoming its non-profit home, with community contributions to the codebase accepted as the project marks the move after more than 30 years.
