CachyOS confirmed on 14 October 2026 that Framework Computer has tripled its monthly donation to the independent Arch-based distribution, committing roughly $850 USD per month up from an original $250. The funding will cover build servers, mirroring and other infrastructure needs as well as buying more developer time for performance optimizations. Framework also supplies hardware, having provided Framework systems to the CachyOS team so the distribution can optimize support for its laptops. The increase reflects CachyOS’s growing popularity, particularly among Linux gamers: Phoronix notes that CachyOS accounted for around 18% of Linux gaming systems in the most recent Steam Survey, making it the leading distribution on that measure. The story is a concrete example of a hardware vendor directly and repeatedly funding the maintenance of a community distribution it ships.
