Gentoo Is Looking for Infrastructure Sponsors

The Gentoo Linux distribution announced that it is seeking infrastructure sponsors after several long-running sponsors were compelled to drop their support this year, leaving the project short of rack space, servers, server hardware and cash. Gentoo posted a sponsorship wish list on its Infrastructure/Sponsorship wiki covering cloud VM hosting with a minimum spec of 2+ vCPU, 4+ GiB RAM and 25+ GB storage, full-package hosted physical servers such as Hetzner-style root servers or donated rack hardware with full remote and IPMI access, colocation with power and connectivity, machines shipped to a Gentoo hosting site, and money to cover co-location and hosting. Non-US capacity is described as the most urgent need, while donated machines are only possible inside the US. Perks include online recognition and advertising on the project's website. 'Partnerships with organizations aligning with Gentoo's goals are strongly preferred,' Gentoo said, directing offers to infra@gentoo.org. The distro, which relies on volunteers plus donations and sponsors to cover expenses, announced in February 2026 that it was leaving Microsoft-owned GitHub for Codeberg.
