Kagi ends Orion Browser development for Linux and Windows, will open-source both

Linuxiac reports that Kagi will stop developing Orion Browser for Linux and Windows and plans to open-source both versions, keeping the existing Linux beta working but ending company updates after October 2, 2026. Kagi says a small team funded entirely by its users built Orion on WebKit rather than Chromium, and that maintaining a browser across multiple platforms requires either substantial funding or a large open-source community, neither of which it has, so it will concentrate resources on macOS and iOS. The company plans to publish the Linux and Windows source within 30 days, has approached open-source foundations about taking the projects over, and says it does not intend to remain the main maintainer, leaving their future to whoever forms a community around them.
