MIT Transit Lab to build an open-source transit platform with $2.1M from Google.org

MIT News reports that MIT's Transit Lab will develop the open-source Public Transit Intelligence Hub with $2.1 million from Google.org, awarded through its Impact Challenge: AI for Government Innovation and one of 15 selections from more than 2,600 proposals under the $30 million program. The three-year project aims to combine real-time monitoring, operations control, and passenger communications in one platform that supports transit staff rather than replacing their decisions, and Google is also providing pro bono engineering and AI product help.
