OpenProject said the Berlin-based software firm bitcrowd will join forces with it from October, adding an experienced product, engineering and consulting team as demand grows for open source alternatives to proprietary tools such as Jira Data Center. OpenProject describes the move as more than added development capacity, pointing to bitcrowd’s work on the Wiblio library platform, locally operated AI and RAG systems, and a recently open-sourced AT Protocol dataplane as evidence of a shared commitment to software, infrastructure and data that organisations control themselves.
