OSTIF published a security audit of Power Grid Model, the open source library for steady-state distribution power system analysis, carried out by Shielder with support from LF Energy. Two Shielder engineers spent twenty person-days in summer 2026 reviewing the core C++ library, the C API shim, the Python package and the additional power-grid-model-io library, producing a manual and tool-assisted source review, a threat model of high-risk areas, a review of the release process and a custom fuzzing harness that is now available on OSS-Fuzz. The audit found three issues with security impact – one high, one medium and one low – all of which have been fixed, and left the project with security documentation and recommendations for future work. Power Grid Model is used for grid planning, expansion, reliability and congestion studies.
