Postgres 19 delayed after AI reviewers find more bugs than humans can fix

The PostgreSQL Global Development Group delayed PostgreSQL 19 and reverted between eight and ten significant features, pushing general availability to around November 19. Committer Peter Eisentraut, a vice president at EDB, attributed the unusually high number of reverts partly to LLM-assisted code review: while some features had genuine architectural defects, AI review also surfaced a long tail of relatively harmless edge-case issues that previously would have lingered for years, leaving developers 'staring at a list of forty defect reports' where each fix averages three lines but carries fixed review overhead. He stressed the reverts were not caused by 'vibe coding', since the features predated effective LLM review, and said the effective quality bar rose after the code was written. Among the pulled features is support for SQL Property Graph Queries; contributor Tom Lane had warned he would 'bet dinner' that shipping it in v19 would produce unfixable post-release bugs. Remaining in the release is REPACK CONCURRENTLY; deferred features are expected to land in PostgreSQL 20.
