Privateer, an AI-assisted security and compliance framework, joins the OpenSSF Sandbox

OpenSSF announced that Privateer has been approved as an OpenSSF Sandbox project under the ORBIT Working Group. Privateer is a plugin-based framework for automated security and compliance evaluation of source code, repository configurations and deployed systems. It targets frameworks such as the OSPS Baseline and the EU Cyber Resilience Act that require maintainers to demonstrate security practices: deterministic checks run first, an optional LLM step reviews evidence those checks cannot parse, and anything still uncertain is marked Needs Review so a human makes the final call. Privateer evaluates evidence and produces structured assessments rather than gating builds like a policy enforcement engine, reads its controls from the separately maintained Gemara ecosystem, and ships a pvtr command line interface that can run locally or in CI.
