Software Freedom in Europe 2026

The Free Software Foundation Europe published its Software Freedom in Europe 2026 report, marking its 25th anniversary and covering the past year's work on DMA enforcement and interoperability, including litigation against Apple and Google and the European Commission's decision to abandon Radio Equipment Directive Article 3(3)(i) after an FSFE-commissioned study found it incompatible with licenses such as the GNU GPL. The report also notes that NGI funding cuts are winding down the FSFE's NGI0 work while it joins the new Horizon Europe projects Restack, GeoCommons, and Rebase to keep supporting Free Software projects in Europe.
