South Korea probes bank breaches amid suspected AI-powered attacks

BleepingComputer reports that South Korea's Financial Services Commission held an emergency meeting after a series of cyberattacks on financial institutions, with investigators examining whether an open-source autonomous hacking tool called ARTEX AI was used to breach seven firms through credential stuffing. Coverage of the incidents says the tool is built on large language models and can independently carry out reconnaissance, identify vulnerable login endpoints, launch attacks and verify results, and that the Korea Financial Security Institute confirmed the ARTEX link after tracing attack infrastructure from Shinhan Bank; more than 65,000 customers' records were exposed and customers are considering lawsuits.
