Rust contributor Kobzol published the second two-month report on his Sovereign Tech Fellowship work on the Rust toolchain, covering August and September 2026. The report describes enabling the -Zembed-metadata=no flag by default on nightly and moving to stabilize it so Cargo can drop duplicated crate metadata and shrink target directories, compiler and parser performance work, faster Polonius analysis and parallel frontend testing, merge-queue improvements, Josh subtree migrations, crates.io trusted publishing for Rust project crates, and faster contribution statistics for thanks.rust-lang.org, and it lists 262 pull requests opened, 214 reviewed and 889 GitHub comments.
