Switzerland’s Federal Council instructed the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport to draw up a consultation draft for a standalone Federal Act on Cybersecurity by June 2027, folding three parliamentary motions on product cyber resilience, protection of important digital data, and the cybersecurity role of hosting and cloud providers into one bill and moving the critical-infrastructure attack reporting duty out of the Information Security Act. The government says a standalone law lets cross-cutting obligations sit in one place and lets specific issues such as open-source software be covered more effectively, and that harmonising with the EU Cyber Resilience Act means internationally active companies already subject to the CRA should face no additional compliance requirements. The framework would set obligations for manufacturers, importers and distributors, give authorities market-surveillance powers, and provide a basis to ban the sale of insecure products.
