The Rust Foundation announced that the Josh project (“Just One Single History”) has joined the Rust Innovation Lab, the foundation’s fiscal-sponsorship home for Rust ecosystem projects. Josh provides fast, reversible transformation of Git history so any part of a repository can be presented as its own independent repository with full history and the ability to contribute back, and it already underpins the Rust Project’s subtree synchronization for Miri, Rust Analyzer, compiler-builtins, stdarch, and the Rust Compiler Development Guide after git subtree became unusably slow at Rust’s scale. Josh is MIT licensed, is maintained by Christian Schilling with Vladislav Ivanov and Marc Wallner, and its work in progress includes a merge queue with filtering and PR stack support, a code review UI for stacked changes, and the josh compose build orchestrator.
